New GS1 UK Scan4Safety evidence report shows the impact so far, and the opportunity ahead

GS1 UK has published a new independent evidence report on Scan4Safety, drawing on research with 29 health organisations across the UK and Ireland alongside national NHS cost data.

It builds on the first evidence base published in 2020, and finds that Scan4Safety continues to deliver measurable results across patient safety, productivity and finances, including an estimated £49 million a year in productivity gains and suggests between 20 and 36 fewer serious incidents would occur annually if it was adopted more widely.

The report also finds that adoption remains uneven, with an average maturity score of 66 per cent across the NHS and many providers yet to implement the programme fully. It sets out five lessons for making the most of Scan4Safety, along with recommendations for national policymakers and provider leaders on how to close that gap.
